With every edition we try to improve the way we present our sires to customers. We have the opportunity to describe the value of each bull using Nordic AND Australian genetic evaluations. Our intention is always to offer the most complete picture of a bulls breeding potential. In this edition you will see we have grouped bulls according to their breeding strengths, regardless of which evaluation describes it best. You can access the Nordic and Australian data for every dairy bull via our website. Listening to Breeders Our team are talking with dairy breeders and managers all the time, as well as others in the dairy production industry. Recurring conversations emerge, that become breeding trends. We are often talking about heifers with close rear teats, short teats and high rear quarters in Holsteins, but it is emerging in Jerseys and Reds too. These issues make milking problematic for humans and robots alike. Udder Balance is a trait of the Nordic evaluation. It describes the degree of tilt in the floor of the udder. Bulls with an udder balance breeding value below 100 will remedy the high rear quarters. VH Nader 88, VH Gipsy 90, VJ Jojo 92. Teat Length and Teat Placement traits are well described in both evaluations. However, to assist customers in understanding the impact of a breeding value, we have included a visual explanation of what you can expect on PAGE 19. Small positive or negative movements from average/optimum will make little difference. Look for bulls that can shift the dial for you.
