Partners of dairy farmers 2020 was a good year for the dairy industry, with farm inputs and milk prices at levels that allowed farmers to trade positively. It certainly wasn’t difficult to say it was the best year for a while. However, COVID created a set of challenges we hadn’t faced before but proved beyond doubt the resilience and innovation that lies within our industry and our communities. As I write this, the COVID vaccination program is rolling out around Australia which will hopefully keep state borders open and continue a return to more normal life in our regions. At the same time, early rain in many regions has allowed dairy farmers to follow the good conditions of 2020 with a positive start to 2021. While I don’t want to speak too soon, 2021 may offer better times. breeders as it is in the Aussie Red’s. Even further, VikingGenetics continues to develop a science-based approach to controlled cross breeding with VikingGoldenCross, as well as beef genetics specially designed for the dairy industry. VikingGenetics is Busy As I draw towards my first anniversary in the VikingGenetics´ team, I have learned it is a busy place. The three breeding programs, VikingHolstein, VikingJersey and VikingRed all utilise the same breeding system. Our passion for innovation based on good science never rests, and we continue to invest in research and development of information and technologies around feed efficient and environmentally sensible cattle. The Scandinavian dairy industry leads the world in heritable health traits, allowing for the lowest use of anti-microbial products.
