Hope in uncertain times W elcome to our first Innovative Breeding magazine of 2022, and what a year it has been already. The world is currently experiencing unforeseen volatility, causing uncertainty across the global farming and agriculture industry. As you’ll discover in this issue, Australian farmers boosted herd health, profitability and productivity with our robust VikingGoldenCross crossbreeding system. Likewise, our sexed semen and cow management tools significantly improved a Swedish herd’s fertility, productivity and overall performance. Finally, our VikingRed breeding program secured success of one organic farm adopting extensive grazing system in the UK and helped it achieve substantial butterfat, protein, and milk yields. It’s here—in these stories—that we recognise our unwavering commitment and dedication to improving the lives of farmers around the world, even in times of instability. Global climate action A highlight for VikingGenetics in 2021 was joining the Global Climate Taskforce, a collaboration comprising 12 Danish food and agriculture leaders ready to tackle domestic and international carbon emissions . As a company so consciously aware of climate change and the steps we must take to secure environmental health for future generations, we are humbled but no less excited to be part of this incredible initiative. With expert knowledge and real-world experience in sustainable practices, we believe VikingGenetics can promote a greener global profile. We look forward to helping Scandinavia achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 whilst developing climate-friendly cross-border genetic solutions for the food and agriculture industry. Find out more about our contributions to the task force later in this issue. Improving feed efficiency Our Saved Feed Index is central to VikingGenetics. As a leading genetics partner, we’re aware of how important it is to make your dairy farm sustainable, which is why we invest heavily in our advanced Cattle Feed Intake (CFIT) technology. CFIT makes it possible for dairy farmers to select the most efficient cows based on reliable data from our 3D cameras and artificial intelligence. This data allows you to achieve optimal feed efficiency, resulting in maximised herd profitability . Today, with continued investments, we look to transform dairy cow management and expand our CFIT technology further by looking at ways to bring you closer to your herd. More information on these developments can be found later in this issue. A look to the future As we head into 2022, we remain dedicated to securing new and improved genetic products and solutions, allowing us to hold our position in an ever-growing market. On a final note, I want to personally thank all our loyal, hard-working farmers, partners and distributors for sticking with us — in the good times and the more challenging times.
